Our Video

An idea ….. what about doing a music video for the website? I keep thinking about the comic relief version of The Proclaimer’s song … ‘When I’m rolling etc etc ‘ (the kids know and love this?) but I would love to hear other ideas. I am thinking we could have chorus bits done by kids …..mixed with bits to camera on bikes. I am happy to edit this etc and put it on youtube but ideas would be welcome ….

"Garlic Bread! It’s the future, I’ve tasted it!"

An inimitable quote from Phoenix Nights, but in the same vein I have today seen, in this weeks issue of Cycling Weekly, the future of gears.

Shimano is in the final stages of perfecting its Dura Ace electronic group set and in the shops for 2009.

So as VHS won out over Betamax and Blu Ray is putting HD to bed, Shimano has given Campagnolo a right old kicking in the proverbial cogs!

Coming to a skip near you soon…Campy Record, Chorus, Centaur…..

Nottingham Evening Post

Herewith text from today’s Nottingham Evening Post. For full impact and inspiring photograph see page 16,

Ian

PS Teachers in the group may notice the missing full stop from the article but hopefully this will not detract too much from the story.

“Parents and teachers from Round Hill School, Beeston, aim to raise £15,000 by cycling to Paris. Proceeds from the event, organised by the PTA, will be used to buy a new school minibus, fund cycle training for pupils and provide bike shelters. The 21-strong group will set off on the four-day, 355-mile challenge during May half-term. But first there is a chance for pupils to have their own cycling marathon on April 12. Youngsters will be sponsored to take turns to cycle the equivalent of Beeston to Paris ”

Now everyone can keep up to date

I have added an RSS feed to the web site. This is a great way of keeping up to date with the news stories we’re posting on the r4rh.org web site.

If you don’t know what to do with an RSS feed, and to be honest why would you, you can subscribe via email. Just enter your email address on the home page and you’ll receive an email every time there is an up date.

Tell everyone, anyone can subscribe and the more people that follow us the better.

The inevitable acquiescence of Steve ‘Indiana’ Jones

Round Hill’s new deputy’s resolve not to join us on the ride is seriously weakening at the moment. Steve is an experienced cyclist – currently cycles 20 miles a day and has cycled all over Europe and round New Zealand twice. Do we have room for one more? If so should we try and get him on board?

Cycling Weekly and Cycling Monthly

I was in W H Smiths and picked up these two mags. In the weekly one there is a great article on indoor training, with the weather changing it may be a bit late but I use my indoor trainer when I can’t get out because of other commitments (like Jen going to the gym) when I have to stay in.

In the monthly mag there is a building programme of training for those wanting to attempt a sportive event. There is a beginners, intermediate and advanced schedules. This month is month one and there is one for the next 2 months. It has a day by day cycling target and recommended HR zones for the day.

I’ll bring them along on Thursday but may be good to get one yourselves so you can see what is needed; they are pretty demanding.
