Sheer class

Former professional cyclist and three-time Tour of Spain winner Roberto Heras could not believe his eyes when he stepped onto the podium at the Brompton World Championship in Oxfordshire on Sunday.

The Spaniard was convinced that he had clinched victory in the folding bike world championship but instead was confronted by a man with a child strapped to his back claiming the prize.

A Belvoir isn’t just for Christmas!

Hello All,

Adrian suggested to me that it might be good fun to have a festive New Year ride around the Vale followed by bacon butties, Christmas cake, coffee and maybe port!  While this is a good idea he has the mistaken belief that it’s flat over here, but then he was possibly suffering form  acute airway constriction and lack of oxygen to the brain ( just kidding – I hope you’re okay Adrian).

Anyway, Ali and I are most definitely up for this and suggest we do a ride starting and finishing at our house in Upper Broughton.  This will be open to all current Beeston riders and families (you don’t have to ride, just come round for the coffee and cake)

The date:  January 3, starting at ~7.30am and finishing at ~11am.  I know it’s three months away but you’ll need to get some training in!  Seriously, we just wanted to get it on the calendar and see if you’re all up for it.  Those that want to start in Beeston can do so, but you’ll miss out on the pre-ride port…tally ho!

Lee

p.s. top tip – take a bag with you on the ride and you’ll be having pheasant or partridge road kill for dinner on the Sunday!

Pedaling to Paris

Some of you may remember a conversation in the commercial in which we discussed using a pedalo to get across the Channel, didn’t occur to me we could fly instead. Seems it’s still an option.

Anyone for Cyclo-Cross?

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7L0oZkDhC4Y]

Looks kinda entertaining, thought the poor guy with the camera seemed to spend most of his time getting passed. Is this what we’re going to get setup for the children at next year’s event?

Write up on national champs, where this footage is from, here: http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/web/site/BC/cyx/EventReports2008/20080921_national_trophy_abergavenny.asp

How are you, Mr Pugh?

Adrian, I heard you had the paramedics out last night. A bit severe to try and get out of the Epic that way.

How are you feeling now? Hope you’re feeling back to normal.

It must have been all that rich food from Harts.

Garmin Battery?

Anyone out there know which battery I need for my heart band. I took mine out a week ago and lost it. I’ve bought one since but it’s the wrong size. Anyone know which it should be?

Thanks

BCC Committee meeting dates and availablity

Hi all,

Adrian and myself need to muster the troops involved in the BCCCommittee to conduct are first proper meeting, which might be a lengthy affair. Firstly we need a venue to hold the meeting? I was hoping we could maybe use the Art room at Zoe’s school. Next are the relevant Committee members available on Tuesday the 30th September or Thursday the 2nd of October? (1930hrs) on both nights if that suits?

Could the the Following Committee members please attend if possible:

Adrian Pugh – Club Chairman

Paul Moffett – Club Vice Chairman/Secretary

Judy Barraclough – Ladies Section

John McKay- Club kit designer

Richard Anderson – Finance issues

Sean Murphy – Finaince Issues

Could you drop me an e-mail if none of the above dates can’t be done aswell as the timings. I would like to keep the agenda short time wise and within reason. I would like to rap up the proceedings by no later than 2045hrs,this will allow us then a chance to retire to the Commercial for some refreshments. I will post some of the areas we need to address during the meeting by Sunday if not sooner. But a rough outline may look like this:

Club rules

Club Bank account/Club subs

Club sections (ie) Men’s/Ladies/Junior etc

club colours and kit

Mission statement and the club intent

Recruitment drive to spread the word

I’m sure there are many areas we need to discuss although I feel we need to get the ground work done first before we apply a second coat.

I look forward to hearing your views.

Kind regards,

Paul

Fixed Penalty

Whilst cycling home today on the Derby Road a fellow cyclist stopped with me at the lights and told me that he got a fixed penalty fine that morning for cyling about 50 yards on the pavement. I know most of us stick to the roads but this may indicate increased scrutiny of cycling behavour in this area.
