Although the events committee did not meet (due to illnesses) it seems that compromises are needed due to marathons, triathlons and other non-cycling related nonsense! So the Beeston CC challenge ride will now be run on Sunday July 12th.
I am not picking up a lot of support for a family trip to Ventoux so my suggestion is that we set this as a club challenge for individuals to be attempted as and when you can. I think groups will form from that depending on individual circumstances and we can compare notes when all the trips are done.
There is some support to arrange a two day ride to the coast – this is possibly a good way to encourage newer riders and incorporate the camping night away that was abandoned due to rain. The children’s day is still around as an idea and needs firming up.
Shirt designs are well underway and look promising.
As stated before £20 per household will allow us to register with British Cycling – if you feel able to offer this please give to Richard Anderson and the money will be taken off next year’s subs.
Our end of season party on 8th November is being hosted by Jenny and Richard. Paul and Zoe are going to give a short talk, in their inimitable style, on the perils of going up (and down) big French mountains as part of the evening. Please book early by letting Jen or Rich know if you are going. It is bring a bottle/nibble.
ON THE BLOG
Not a lot really:
Some abuse of me (as usual)/ the start of winter training rides/some winter drinking plans/ideas about a Land’s End to John O‘Groats attempt.
Go see for yourself at www.rideforroundhill.wordpress.com before it gets trampled on by something bigger and flasher designed by Adam!
THOUGHTS AND SUGGESTION
Another interesting bike
http://gizmodo.com/5070819/broomstick-bike-is-perfect-vehicle-for-wannabe-witches
I’m not going to speculate on who this might suit!
And so it begins
TIred, aching muscles. Ravenously hungry. Desperate for sleep. Must be the first day of my new training year.
As I stretched this morning after a run, my fingers clawing desperately at the air in a vain attempt to touch my toes, I was reminded of all the training I used to do before my month-long sabbatical.
Eating, drinking, sleeping have all taken their toll. I am heavier, stiffer, and less flexible. It’s as if George has given me his hamstrings, it’s ridiculous how short they seem to be.
But now is the time to focus on next year, start the process of building up speed, endurance and strength to trounce the challenges to come.
So what is everyone planning for next year? What goals do you have and how are you going to achieve them? Do you have specific training in mind, or are you not sure where to start? Do you need some goals?
My starters for 10:
- Ventoux – 3+ ascents in one day
- Virtuvian Triathlon – under 5 hours (5h25 this year)
- Top 10 in a cycle road race
- 25 mile time-trial in 1 hour
- Actually do a cycle sportive
LeJog
Anyone fancy doing LeJog next year? I’m thinking spring. I’ve got very little thought out, so I’m open to ways to do it.
I’m thinking of a route generally up the west of around 950 miles, and happy to do it in 8-10 days, or possibly less. I’m thinking unsupported but very light, hopefully just a barbag for clothes. Expedient use of the flexible friend and prebooked B&B’s all the way.
For our Yorkshire folk
Another view on Yorkshire:
Ride for Raleigh
The man from Raleigh (Geoff Giddings of ‘Puncture repair challenge’ and cyclo-cross fame) has asked if there are children ( 5 to teenage) who would be happy to ride around a park on some new Raleigh bikes and have their photo taken for the Raleigh brochure. If I suggested next Friday, whose kids could be taken to a nearby park for him? I have no idea if there is recompense or free things for the kids on this one!
Could you let me have details on here or via e-mail so I can let him know.

Tour de France 2009 – route announced
Looks like quite an exciting one

What a lack lustre bunch
Despite my marvellous e-mail giving you up to the minute news I am getting no responses about questions that will guide events for next year. So, can you tell me (on here, by phone, by post, by word of mouth or via e-mail – just let us know!):
1) Are there dates in September 2009 you want us to avoid for the challenge ride (eg Robin hood marathon/other races/ etc) ?
2) Are you thinking about going to Ventoux next year as a family? If no are you thinking about going individually? If yes will you be able to do it as an individual at half term?
Youtube infamy.
They say bad publicity is better than no publicity. The Youtube report on The Autumn Epic has seen ‘Natroby’ back down publicly and my cycling videos have had their audience quadrupled – 149 views in one week ! My editing style may be a bit Ed Woods (or something like that),as Lee once said, but it’s what the public want.
How did you all get on in the blowy sunshine?
