The benefits of cycling

Hi all, as I have now been cycling to work for almost 6 months now, it has become clear that I do not need our Golf. This is such a positive step and has meant that I have only put £30 petrol in the Golf in the last 2 months and the car has not been missed.

So I am selling the car – so if you know of anyone I will do a fair deal.
The car is in great condition and done low miles.

Golf S – 5 door hatchback – Silver.
T reg – only done 57,230 miles
Petrol – full service history
Well looked after and bought at 6 months old x demo.
Private sale price £2,300 or nearest offer

A message from the Committee

I sent this by email but for those that haven’t received it I am posting it here. Let me know if you want the email version:

Hello all and here is my pre Christmas update on Beeston CC,

RIDES

There is a steady group out on Saturday mornings arranging where they are going via the ‘Upcoming Rides’ section of www.rideforroundhill.wordpress.com

If you want to meet up with people who ride at your speed and time of day then put a post up.

AGM

I don’t know if Paul the Secretary has told you … the first AGM is on January 18th at 2pm. Venue is to be confirmed (prob at Round Hill School) but we hope to have something for the kids. Paul will be asking for nominations to the key positions in the club but not until you have been asked to vote on the constitution. Given that it’s just a few of us at the moment it may all seem a bit silly but if the club grows as we expect it to then we need to have some clear rules. Please put it in your diary.

BRITISH CYCLING

We have sent off our application to British Cycling and will soon be registered. The committee stumped up the cash and will claim it back from next year’s membership fees.

SHIRTS

You may have seen John’s cool shirt design. He continues to work hard on sourcing a supplier and finishing off the logo. He will be presenting the final design at the AGM

CONNECTING WITH YOU

Adam is still working on his ideas for the Club’s website. I have seen some ideas and it should make the blog look a bit dated. We have included online and proxy voting in the constitution so as to ensure that you don’t have to spend hours in committee meetings to be part of the club.

BEGINNER’S RIDES

We will be starting monthly beginner’s rides once we are registered with BC and insured. These rides are will be guided and set at a level that the average person can manage, with the promise that no one will be left behind. The aim is to introduce people to the idea of riding for fitness and in a group and hopefully explain to them the benefits of being a member of BEESTON CC

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

The starter is that you can buy the wonderfully designed BEESTON CC shirt! Also you will be able to access all areas of the soon to be launched BEESTON CC website and arrange to meet others for rides via that. We are negotiating discount at local bikeshops (and already have 10% off at Cycle Inn if you mention BEESTON CC). We are hoping to get a 20% discount for regular customers. Mark Ness is already able to offer SIS products with at least a 20% discount – contact him for details.

CLUB RIDES

Pudding ride

Saturday 3rd January sees the Club’s pudding ride departing from Lee and Ali’s house in Leicestershire. Mince pies and black pudddings on offer.

The club is supporting a children’s cycling day – date etc to be confirmed.

The Cyclosportive, with a couple of route options. is to be run on 12th July. Richard A, Adam and I are trying our hand at running the event on behalf of the club and hope to swell the number of riders to 200. It will be bigger and better supported and just as challenging as last year. There will be guided runs around sections of the route in the new year.

Beeston to the Beach is very much an idea at the moment. A two day trip to the beach with support – we will carry your kit and chill your wine. 100 miles in two days with an overnight camp for families at the end – fancy it? We thought about doing during the summer half term.

Ventoux – several people have got together and started planning for a trip to Mt Ventoux on June 19th. If you fancy going up a big mountain do let us know. Richard A and Adam will be going up this feared mountain of Le Tour, on Choppers, the day before the challenge ride in aid of  Alzheimer Charities thereby making the rest of us look like second raters but also ensuring we can whip their bottoms on the proper day.

THURSDAY NIGHT SOCIALS

The Hop Pole seems to be as good a place as any (in fact better than many) to meet on the last Thursday of every month. Given that Christmas and New Year are on a Thursday what about a new year drink on the 8th January and then the last Thursday of the month thereafter.

Let us know if you have any ideas or suggestions

Mike in hospital

Just a quick note.

Mike feinted twice in Neros just after our ride this morning.
He mentioned that he wasn’t well yesterday
The paramedics took him to hospital.
They would say whether it was serious or not.

If any one knows his mobile can they call to say that I have his bike and kit etc.
Cheers J

The Ventoux, Three, four…

Hi All,

Firstly many thanks to all those who attended last night. Now that we have something down on a piece of ’till roll’ we can start to make some plans. Now due to the fact that the beer goggles and funny voices came out last night I will try and recap on some of the finer points of the discussion!

  • It is planned to take three cars to Ventoux. The following people said they would be happy to do so.     Paul Moffett, Mark Ness and Sean Murphy. Each car will be able to take 4 bikes each.
  • It was agreed that the fuel for all the cars would be done on a ‘all in’ kitty? That needs to be confirmed My own preference is that each car looks after itself…any thoughts on that then please say.
  • Mark Ness would investigate the costings for the Ferry and the Tunnel for a comparsion on prices and any special deals.
  • Sean would investigate the campsite issues, location and availability.
  • Richard will investigate the Hotel and the Ventoux support that goes along with that, pricing etc.
  • Paul M will research the breakdown cover and costings for this.

I would like to set a date where we can get together and discuss the above points at a suitable date, time and location? So if you could all have think as to when your free that would be really helpful.

Thanks for last night it was good craic!

Men wanted

I was asked to see if any men want to get some practice in for carol singing at the Round Hill School christmas fair. They apparently have women who can do the twiddly bits but only Dave M there to offer a counterbalance. The christmas fair is next Wednesday at 5pm. The practice is this Sunday at 4pm at School. You can take kids and partners.

Official Hostelry of Beeston CC?

Murmurings about the Hop Pole becoming the official evening social venue of Beeston CC. Suggest we have a social evening on Thursday (27th November) to make sure.

We could also discuss Ventoux plans.

See you there from 20:30

Got an old racer? Go singlespeed!

I discovered today that Decathlon sell a threaded rear wheel with a rigida rim and no brand hub for £24.95. If you buy their chain (£7.95) and single speed freewheel (£2.99) then you can be riding to work on your lovingly revamped single speed bike for £36 . A bargain that will make you the envy of your club mates!
