Shimano causes pain (official)

Extensive research suggests that my 48 x 16 gear is too high for my little legs and is causing knee pain.  I wonder if I should carry on and build strength to meet the load or just change the freewheel. Does any one have a shimano bmx freewheel remover?

Beeston CC newsletter

News from Beeston CC – a club with aspirations

The AGM

The club is now registered with British Cycling and we have an executive committee and a constitution. However these were things all agreed around a table full of beer with hardly, what you might call, a majority vote. The AGM will be held on Sunday 18th January at 2pm. It was thought this was a good time to allow parents to attend and that if we held it in school then the kids could watch a film. I am wondering if this, in reality, will work since we will need someone to watch them watching the film and to set it all up. Let me know your thoughts and I will go with the flow. The venue still has to be confirmed (PAUL?) We do need the AGM to make it all legit although I hope to make the meeting as short (although respectful) as possible. We have some people willing to take on the executive positions but if you wish to stand then I am sure any one of us would make space for you! The positions are:

Chair

Secretary

Treasurer

Web/membership secretary

Welfare Rep

The people voted into these roles constitute the exec committee who will meet to make decisions for the club. The only ‘business’ meeting of members is at The AGM or, if called an EGM. Sub groups will be formed for interested parties for specific projects and these will report to Executive. Sub groups possibly needed are for: The Children’s Cycling day, A proposed Honies/family trip, beginners and new members ride coordination group.

The constitution is written and emphasises that the club is about ‘endeavour’ although specifying no particular branch of cycling (or groupset)

DEVELOPMENTS

Shirts

The club shirts are designed and the executive are loaning the club money for a one off prototype from Sugoi. This loan will be recouped from shirt sales. We envisage the shirts to be in the region of £42 but this will depend on orders. More to follow soon.

Website

Go to www.beeston.cc to see the current site. But this will be the new forum for everything once up and running. In the meantime we are still using www.rideforroundhill.wordpress.com

Accounts

Richard A is standing as treasurer and has set up a bank account. We need a proposal from him for subs for next year. Some people have paid up £20 for household membership already.

RIDES

The blog continues to provide a forum to ‘meet’ and arrange rides with a variety going on and picking up now that Christmas is moving behind us. The weather may turn cold again though.

I would like the club to have a regular monthly ‘Welcome’ ride of 40 miles. I envisage this being guided and run at a 15 mph average. If anybody wants to help me plan this we can form the ‘welcome and Beginners’ sub committee. Other rides could be arranged eg family rides, mtb etc Just say if you are interested in organising.

The Beeston CC Challenge ride is set for July 12th. Myself, Adam and Richard A are running this on behalf of the club. I did say last time that it would be bigger and better and then got told off for dissing the support at this year’s ride. The support obviously couldn’t be better but it will need to be substantially more to meet the demands of the anticipated 200 riders we want to attract.

TRIPS

The Ventoux trip is still being planned.

Anything else in the pipe line? Mike was talking about LEJOG

SOCIAL NIGHTS

The club has a variety of types of cyclists and so the place you are most likely to meet other club members is on a social night. The Hop Pole seems to have been adopted as the pub of choice with the added advantage (?) that Ian Beestin plays the odd gig there (??). I am not sure when these nights out are scheduled though ….

NEWSLETTER

This has been sent on the assumption that you want to know about Beeston CC. Feel free to contact me and tell me you don’t want to know any more. As the new website takes off then people can get onto mailing lists etc via that ( I think?) In the meantime pass this onto to any interested parties.

Belvoir bike ride and bacon butties – Jan 3, 2009

Hello All,

Here’s the Belvoir pudding ride, which will be followed by a get together for riders and families at our house.

http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-kingdom/-nottingham/799071752509

The plan is for riders to either drive their bikes to Upper Broughton, with a planned departure time of 7.30am or if you are cycling from Beeston to meet en route – I suggest the junction of Nottingham Lane and Station Road (just above Old Dalby) at 7.40am.

The ride is ~3 hours, so I suggest family members plan to get to our house for 10.30am – Ali will be at home. We’ll be serving bacon, sausage and black pudding butties (all together if you want!), tea, coffee, juice etc.   It’s meant to be a fun morning to help mark the New Year and the founding of Beeston Cycling Club.

I’ll email my address details to Adrian and I hope he’ll forward it on to all current members of BCC – can you all please leave a blog to let us know if you are coming and how many – Thanks!

Note: While Campag riders are welcome they will have to leave their bikes at the gate as the only crap I allow on my land comes from the back end of horses!
