Found a spectacular climb on my one way Sheffield ride on Sunday from Chesterfield to Owler Bar. I’m planning to do it again this weekend (2nd and 3rd of May) and loop back through the Peak district. Fantastic views, challenging climbs, exciting descents, great Venteux training.
The route from my home Ilkeston will be just over 100 miles and hilly so the pace will be steady and I’ll be stopping more than once to rest and refuel. I’m planning a very early start, maybe 5:30 and 6 at the latest. I can do Saturday or Sunday if anyone fancies joining me. If not I might wait and look to see which day the weather looks most favourable.
Hopefully you can view the route here

Regular meet-up on second Thursday at the Hop Pole in Beeston. Sarah and I are getting a sitter, as are Adrian and Jane I believe, so the testosterone levels should be diluted.

I ‘ll be cycling from Ilkeston and meeting at West Park Leisure Centre at 5:35
We had a committee meeting this week.
It was pleasing to note that membership is up at around 40 and our aim is 60 for this year. We need a wide variety and number of riding members because Beeston CC is a different club in that it does not hold organised rides every week. We feel that this would only attract one type of rider. Our club is based on enabling members to connect and share similar riding goals and ambitions and over the next few weeks I am hoping we can create a bigger awareness of what we offer with a media campaign.
We discussed the upcoming challenge ride ( 12th July ), agreed that Richard would set a date for a family ride, noted that the shirts should be here in the next couple of weeks and agreed to follow up an invite from Broxtowe Council to discuss funding for a junior section. I think we also talked about holding some kind of end of season ‘posh do’.
It is a challenge to establish a new cycling club and I am grateful that we have a good and supportive committee. It is however worth noting that I am going through the process of starting back at University in September and won’t be standing as chair. Any takers?
@Mike – Any progress on our hilly TT route?
Last weekend I rode the proposed and pretty much finalised 100m challenge route. There are a couple of minor ammendments as a result. One is probably the descent to Stanley
stanley (derby road)
It is Derby road from Chaddesden Common down the hill to Stanley. The steepest part just as you enter Stanley has a really bad road surface. Please can anyone else ride it and see if they feel it is reasonable or not. It is the worst bit of the whole ride in that respect.
Riding to Sheffield on Sunday

Leaving Ilson around 9am but not returning.
Having raced at Mallory Park this week I have realised that it will be a uphill task to gain points in Cat3/4 races. I plan to target Cat 4 only races at the weekends to gain some confidence and hopefully some points. This may mean travelling a fair distance to catch a race. Is there anyone else out there who wants to join in, share the travel and enjoy the fun of racing?
It would be good to go through the BC race calendar for the next 3 months and plan out a few trips, but I don’t want to do it just for me, I want the club to be well represented. Blog and let me know if you want to join in. You do need to be committed to it, though.
