We need to think about what Sportives we are entering this year as a club. I notice the Mad March Hare is already full! Are we interested in Spring Sportives? Or even winter reliability rides? I don’t expect the RRT are?
I’m potentially interested in the following early season events:
I remember Adam’s post last year along these lines and I found it quite motivational, so let’s be having your 2010 goals…
Adam and I are up for a 100 miler. Not sure about route yet.
110 miles
Halfway café in Stone that does the most amazing all day Staffordshire style breakfasts
Pace approx 16 mph, mostly very flat with a little undulation coming into Stone.
7:40am Argos

A few general thoughts on training for the coming months, I am sure we all have our individual training plans written already.
November (what’s left of it) – finish the month on the last of the 70 milers on Saturday.
December – up the mileage and get a few 100s in between the 80s mainly flat, low intensity.
January – start to increase the intensity and dropping down the distance. Will probably mean heading out into the Derbyshire hills, Ashbourne is my favourite for this month, combined with a few flat 70s. Also introducing some early interval work into some of the sessions, and adding some TT work.
February – another increase in intensity, more hills and upping the pace on the flats. Cranking up the number of interval sessions in between, and pressing on with the TT work (I need to get better at that even if only to get over my loathing of the discipline – I hated it when I did triathlons, I’m also not very good at it).
March – hurray race, race, race, not necessarily for points but for race fitness this early in the season, but points will help with confidence and my target.
Blog comments and let me know what you are planning.
Can anyone recommend some god cafe stops around 2 hours from Nottingham – creating 4 hour round trip ride. I know some in the Peaks, but they are just a bit too far for a morning’s ride.
Needs to offer a good cuppa and quality Cake! Surely the combined knowledge of the club must be able to compile a definitive local ‘cafe stop’ list.
I’m happy to ride in any direction, north, south, east, west – the more country lanes the better.
