Racing Sat 13th Darley Moor

This Saturday sees the Beeston RRT try their luck again.  Conditions are forecast to be dry and warm (10 degrees) with the inevitable wind (well it is a moor).

Results are not up for last week yet so we’re not sure how junior debutant Francesco got on, as there were 3 races in 1, but he competed and finished his first race so congratulations are in order.  Most importantly he is is keen to come back for more.  His sister is looking to compete in the under 10s this week.  Other juniors in the club should be inspired to have a go.

The Cat 3/4 seniors (some more senior than others) will be at it again with Dan Speed (can he live up to his name) joining the 6 from last week and we’ll all be looking for an improvement.

I’m taking Dan, myself and a photographer.  I have room for one more but can’t fit anymore bikes.  If anyone wants to come and cheer on the team in the Cat 3/4 race and the juniors race it’s a great day our in the picturesque Derbyshire Dales…..and there’s a cafe (OK shed) serving tea and cake.

Family Rides

I see from the diary (search dates for diary from the home page) that there are Family Rides in April and June.  I’m really looking forward to taking my eldest girl on one of these.  Are there any plans or routes for these rides?

Twinning with a Club in Brittany

Fellow club members,

Following a discussion with Adrian I have been tasked with trying to organise a twinning with a club local to my place in France and a trip across the Channel. I have put this project to the committee and it has been suggested that I would next put it to you to gather expressions of interest and then work on a more detailed plan.

AC Gouesnou (http://www.acgouesnou.fr/) is a club with a range of competences, ranging from racing (FFC and FSGT) to more leisurely rides, including youth and females sections too, fairly local to me. Jean Marc, a good childhood friend of mine (he is the chap in red on the LHS on the AC Gouesnou banner), an AC Gouesnou committee member and the Finistere road race champion is his category (FSGT) and age group (40), and I have been in touch. Jean Marc has reported that the AC Gouesnou committee was very supportive of the initiative (trip across and twinning).

The proposal so far would involve: travelling to Plymouth by van/car; crossing over on foot (with the bikes) to Roscoff; riding Roscoff-Brest (80km; I could arrange for my parents to meet up in Roscoff to collect luggages, though I’d be personally happy to use my Carradice); next day, day ride with AC Gouesnou across country and along the coast; evening BBQ; following day, short ride and/or tourism and maybe some good seafood; last day, ride back to Roscoff and trip North to Notts). Depending on the group size we could ask to sleep chez l’habitant, being hosted by AC Gouesnou members so costs would be low (trip; contribution to BBQ and perosnal expenses). Bike storage, not a problem! But I am happy to look into the complete picture once we get some interest.

Dates? Following consultation with AC Gouesnou, it would be June, early July maybe, or, I would suggest, Sept.

So, what do you think?

Round Hill Event

The following is a message from Round hill School.  I am not available on the date in question but can anyone else help?  I understand that Adrian may be available.
Is there any publicity material available?
On Saturday 24th April Round Hill school is running a health and visit day.  The parent association committee would like BCC to put on an information stand and run a little cycling event for the children.
There was a cycling day at school as part of the lead up to the Ride for Round Hill two years ago, which was one of the most successful events that has been put on.
The event this April has a broader focus with lots of sports being represented – cricket, football, rugby, dance, fitness etc
The RHA would also appreciate it if BCC could man the BBQ for the event.

Cyclocross

Not many people at the last maintenance night so discussions re cyclocross didn’t occur.  Does anyone want to meet up in a pub to talk CX?

Wanted/For Sale ads

Following Richard B’s suggestion in his profile do we think there is demand for this?

You have to be a member to post on the blog anyway so it can’t be abused by non members, I also have some diclaimer text that can be posted on the blog to protect the club from any possible disputes.

So if it was approved and added to the blog would you ever use it?
