Family Rides
I see from the diary (search dates for diary from the home page) that there are Family Rides in April and June. I’m really looking forward to taking my eldest girl on one of these. Are there any plans or routes for these rides?
Twinning with a Club in Brittany
Fellow club members,
Following a discussion with Adrian I have been tasked with trying to organise a twinning with a club local to my place in France and a trip across the Channel. I have put this project to the committee and it has been suggested that I would next put it to you to gather expressions of interest and then work on a more detailed plan.
AC Gouesnou (http://www.acgouesnou.fr/) is a club with a range of competences, ranging from racing (FFC and FSGT) to more leisurely rides, including youth and females sections too, fairly local to me. Jean Marc, a good childhood friend of mine (he is the chap in red on the LHS on the AC Gouesnou banner), an AC Gouesnou committee member and the Finistere road race champion is his category (FSGT) and age group (40), and I have been in touch. Jean Marc has reported that the AC Gouesnou committee was very supportive of the initiative (trip across and twinning).
The proposal so far would involve: travelling to Plymouth by van/car; crossing over on foot (with the bikes) to Roscoff; riding Roscoff-Brest (80km; I could arrange for my parents to meet up in Roscoff to collect luggages, though I’d be personally happy to use my Carradice); next day, day ride with AC Gouesnou across country and along the coast; evening BBQ; following day, short ride and/or tourism and maybe some good seafood; last day, ride back to Roscoff and trip North to Notts). Depending on the group size we could ask to sleep chez l’habitant, being hosted by AC Gouesnou members so costs would be low (trip; contribution to BBQ and perosnal expenses). Bike storage, not a problem! But I am happy to look into the complete picture once we get some interest.
Dates? Following consultation with AC Gouesnou, it would be June, early July maybe, or, I would suggest, Sept.
So, what do you think?

Profiles
If you haven’t done a profile please consider doing one as so many new members have joined it is now hard to keep track of names!
It might also be good to put a picture in your profile that we can recognise you by and maybe to go to www.gravatar.com and add a picture there so that if you make a comment we know who is saying what. You will see I added an actual photo of me that is neither enigmatic or meaningful Scary to look at but at least you know it’s me and the blog makes more sense.
I am thinking profiles could also include your twitter details etc – maybe those who have done profiles could add that stuff? Can we link to people’s profiles from the name that appears as the author of a post or comment – currently some people link to their own blogs etc?
Tuesday Night Chain gang
Same as …. Argos for 8pm.
Usual route – who is looking after the development squad?
I would like to try someone going off the front, leave a 3 minute gap then the development squad go then leave a 5 minute gap and then the rest go. The aim off the last group is to bring everything together at the end.
What do others think? Will we have enough going to try this? Any takers to be the ‘hare’!
Club Colours
Club Colours have caused heated debate in the RRT … white socks were even in dispute. We have no order for mitts or caps or overshoes – any non customised kit that would complement our shirt and shorts ? I should add that orange is an ‘accent colour’ to our kit and that orange is the colour for everyone’s kit this year, it seems!
I think my bar tape should be the bar wrap of choice …..
Old Velodrome in Long Eaton?
I thought I’d double check the route to the P&L and stumbled upon something. If you search for 52.898865,-1.26133 in google maps you will see.
It looks like it could be a grown over velodrome of some sort. Perhaps it’s just my wishful thinking. Maybe the Beeston grass-track championships has a venue…?
