After going out on Sunday, I have come to the conclusion I am not good at hills, what distances are people thinking of doing?

The peaks are beautiful but those routes are horrible.
On saturday I will be mainly not doing any of them ;)

I'm doing the long, with the medium as a bail-out option in the event of bad weather (or bad legs!). Routes look great to me. 👌🏻

Whichever route I choose I guess after first hill or 2 I will most likely be riding solo, lantern rouge for me :D

Parental duties have messed with my plans, I'm out :-(

I'll be doing the long (I think).

There is a closed road on the long route. It's a shame because its a lovely bit of road. https://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=102918.0
could either go through Eyam instead and extend the route to Hathersage, but that would use a fairly busy road. Alternatively just cut that section off by taking the road from Foolow to Bretton

I am sorry I can't make this now. We are having renovation work completed at the office over the weekend and I need to be in. :-(
I was hoping that this would have been finished by now but alas not.

I will have a rethink, route wil likely change quite a lot. To keep it good since that is one of best bits. I will keep distances as fast folk have committed mentally there

If I'm reading that right, the closure is roughly at the 49-mile marker, meaning there's no route between Bretton & Abney (and we lose one climb and one long descent). I'd be fine with just diverting through Leam to Hathersage rather than making wholesale changes, but I'm happy to defer to Mike's greater knowledge.

Correct. Leam quit good but will be reviewing if time. Hectic in hospital ;)

I can no longer make this as I have taxi duties I forgot I'd agreed to, should be back for an afternoon ride. Might do short or medium route (slowly) if anyone else fancies it, just not sure when though, about 1 or 2 ish?

Anyone know how long the road on the long route is closed for? I might try long route next Sat/Sun?

Phil M

12:48 Wed, 21 Jun 2017

Not sure but it's been closed for at least a year.

grayble

will new routes be posted up on here?

markn

Mike has made some amendments to avoid the road closure. I think Phil R is amending the routes. It was following the Bretton ridge then to Leam and to Hathersage avoiding the Grindleford road.

I managed to convert the gpx files to Strava routes (not as elegant as RWGPS, but plays better with my ancient Garmin). If need be I can edit the long route so there's a file for people to use.

I have the route from Phil. But not sure what best to do with it. I have put it on ridewithgps as a public file, I think. Can someone see if they can see it. The file is called BCC-long-revised

grayble

Phil - if you're having problems, email me the route file and I'll put it up as a Strava route.

This caused confusion, too many Phils :D

I think this is the revised route on RWGPS:
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/22328826

My Strava version of the revised long route is here:
https://www.strava.com/routes/9278639
Note that this is *not* the official version, and may have some minor differences, but the file might work better for some people.

One comment: the revised route along the ridge goes along the ridge on Sir William Hill Road, and apparently a section of that road isn't paved. (I noticed this because Strava's planning tool wouldn't let me send the route along it!) I don't know that area at all, but it seems to be about a mile of rocky/gravel dirt track, mostly downhill. The images on Google Street View make it look marginal for road tyres, but I guess we can judge it when we see it. If we want to go around it's only a short detour (the Strava route linked above goes around it).

richard_a

No the route does not go down the rocky road. There is a bipass.
