Crossing the Trent north of Newark?

Hi, I'm working on a road route going out through Newark, but I want to come back over the Trent again (i.e. from East side back to West), but I can't see any option other than going North as far as the A57 Newton-on-Trent.

Does anyone know of any other route across? There is a Trent Viaduct (between North and South Cliifton) but not sure if that's accessible by road bike (or indeed any bike at all).

Any advice anyone??

the viaduct you mention is actually a cycle trail on a old railway bed check it out on google maps with the bike setting on it shows it clearly

I think those are the only options though. Pretty sure there are no road bridges across the Trent between the A1 in Newark and the A57.

Andy: The cycle trail looks ok, but looking on Google maps / Streetview doesn't seem to be any way onto or off of it on the roads each side! (Church lane on the East, an unnamed road on the West).
I'm going to give it a try tomorrow, with a "Plan B" of the A57 if it doesn't work!

Success! If anyone else is interested, my ride is here:

I think the paths on and off are newish, the photos on Google maps pre-date them, which is why I was confused...

The crossing itself is an old rail viaduct; about 4km of compacted gravel - similar to the Tissington Trail, or Beeston canal path; not ideal for a road bike but not too bad. Certainly rideable.
That definitely opens up some more route options now I know that is there!

Road-wise, north of Newark, there are very few options. As Andy says, the first is Muskham. After that there is nothing until Dunham Bridge (A57), although a main road it's not too busy. After that you go all the way to Gainsborough before the next one. After Gainsborough the next is Boothferry bridge at Goole.
