Third week of racing - March hares
On Saturday 18th
Sam Amps and Ed Wu raced 3/4 at Darley. Sam dnf with a back pain and Ed finished strong in the bunch.
Colin Warden raced the Clumber Park Duathlon, results yet to be confirmed.
On Sunday 19th
E1234 at Shrewsbury closed circuit.
The lady race team; Izzy Wild, Cheryl Vaughan and Laura Owler raced the E1234 at Shrewsbury closed circuit. This was their first opportunity for half the team to get real race time together.
It was Laura's first ever race, the first race for Cheryl this season and Izzy's second race. They were all in the main bunch for the final sprint Cheryl was 11th, Izzy 13th and Laura dropped off bunch after a very close encounter! They forged a great partnership and when the full team get to race together, podium places are sure to come.
EMRRL 1st race - Windley
Tomas, Iain, Chris and Matt Stratford raced EMRRL round 1 in very tough conditions against some strong riders hungry for points. Many riders pulled out of this baptism of fire. Chris had to dnf as got pushed out onto the verge and came to a halt, by the time he got back on the bike the peloton were out of sight, on his own he struggled to get back on. Tomas got caught behind a mechanical and dropped off the main peloton, but up until then he was comfortable and looked strong. Matt stayed with the main bunch then slowly lost traction but kept going and completed the race. Iain was in the main bunch until the penultimate climb out of Windley. The picture above shows a gritty Tomas our youngest rider pushing hard on the hilly sections of the course.
All in all, the early season has seen the riders get some good miles and race times under their belt and they are anticipating success soon.
