We are delighted to announce our official welcome to Luke Jones.

 

I drove down to Leicester Forest service station with Luke’s kit and had a social distance coffee with Colin Jones Sharon Jones and Luke.

 

Luke’s arrival marks the next step in the strengthening of our youth squad with four of our current youth riders (Jack Pearson Fred Shenton-McQueen Finlay Holland and Carrick ) moving up to juniors in 2021

 

Luke will be training and racing next season with, Bram, Lucas Jowett, George Amor-Hughes, Ryan Williams and our plans are to strengthen the squad further to develop a sustainable pipeline of talent through our youth and junior system.

 

Luke Jones is an U14 rider who will participate in Road, Track and Cyclo-Cross Events. His love of cycling started when he was just 18 months old, watching the Tour De France. At four he became a Hinckley Flyer and regularly took his place on the podium at the local Go Ride races.

 

Unfortunately when Luke was 7 years old he had a severe break to his femur and was fitted with life long plates and was told he may never cycle again or continue with his other sport Taekwondo. Luke was not going to let this stop him and 6 months later the plates were removed so that Luke could get back on his bike and train towards his last two Taekwondo gradings.

 

In May 2017 Luke made the move to Welland Valley CC as he wanted the opportunity to train at the Velodrome, take part in some Circuit racing and he also developed a love for cyclo-cross under the instruction of Dean Barnett.

Luke had a fantastic season on the road in 2019 and achieved 29 podium places, and was looking forwards to taking part in both Track and Road Nationals this year until COVID19. He is currently leading the Derby Youth Track League and his Road Race season had started well.

 

He is thoroughly enjoying training with Bryan Steel and has had a fantastic welcome to the Beeston CC Youth & Junior Race Team. He’s now looking forwards to when the racing finally begins and he can race alongside his new team mates. Luke is keen to compete in the Cyclo Cross Nationals should they run this year and would be delighted to win his first season on the Track.
