Determined to achieve success

Lucas Jowett is 15 years old and an U16 rider racing for Beeston Cycling Club competing at regional road and track events.
Lucas will use the next season to progress to national events as he gains his racing spurs supported by the club and the youth academy.

Lucas was identified as a talented prospect and he made the transition from triathlons and joined the BCC youth team and the Bryan Steel Youth Academy in October 2019.

Turning passion into a competitive edge

Lucas developed a passion for road cycling which has now been channelled through his local Beeston Cycling Club. This has given Lucas access to a structured development programme and a talented team where he can compete with the squad and they learn from each other.

In October 2019 Lucas started training sessions at the Derby Velodrome supported with expert guidance from Bryan Steel through the youth academy. We have high hopes that Lucas will fulfil his potential.

His love for cycling started when he went on a few cycling holidays in Majorca, which gave him the desire to explore options and he quickly progressed to training and competing in triathlons across the region.

Balancing family time and training time

Lucas also appreciates that riding for enjoyment is an important part of his development and he regularly spins the wheels with his family. Lucas has also been known to rip the legs off has dad Ian when they go out on their many group rides.

Lucas has completed the Great Nottinghamshire Bike Ride many times and with each year the distance has increased, and last summer he was delighted to complete the 100 mile ride.

Always up for a challenge

Lucas has always enjoyed competitive sports and started playing tennis at the age of three and went on to play to a high standard at the Nottingham Tennis Performance Academy.

Lucas had a real talent for ball sports and started playing football at the age of six where he played for local teams. His talent was spotted early and he earned trials at several football academies, including a premier league club.

Lucas has always been an active person (it’s what keeps him focused) and he loves his annual family skiing holidays. Lucas loves a challenge and he completed the 3 Yorkshire Peaks and the 3 National peaks challenge.

Looking to future successes

During lock down Lucas has continued to keep his fitness levels up by following an intense but enjoyable cycling gym program set by the Bryan Steel Youth Academy. He is enjoying long rides and exploring new routes.

Due to COVID Lucas has been disappointed that his first season with BCC hasn’t gone to plan and he hasn’t been able to compete in events. He is looking forward as the restrictions are lifted to be able to race and compete again.

Lucas and his team mates remain very positive and their training programmes will enable them to seize successes when racing starts again.
