Will Beech is an U23 year old senior academy rider, racing for Beeston Cycling Club on road and track. Will has always loved riding his bike and his passion was sparked when he got his first road bike at 12 years old and joined in the Go-Ride events run by Nottingham Clarion.

Go-Ride opened the door to competition

This gave Will a real appetite for competition and the following year he rode the Forest Town track events – that was it, hooked! Good progress over the next couple of years saw Will compete on closed circuits, cyclo-cross and track. Will took wins at Mallory Park and Darley Moor in his last year at Youth U16 level and represented the East Midlands at the Youth Tour of Scotland. 

Graduating through the ranks  

Will graduated to the Junior ranks in 2018 and gained his 2nd category road race license in his first Junior year with some impressive results against senior riders as well as taking 5 wins in his age category in hill climbs at the end of the year.  

Delivering impressive performances

Last year as a 2nd Cat Junior, Will regularly performed impressively against Elite senior riders and took Bronze at the East and West Mids Junior Divisional Champs. He was in the form of his life when he competed in the prestigious international Tour of Assen only to crash out when in the lead group at the cobbled ‘classic’ stage. His injuries definitely affected his performance when riding for the East Midlands team at the Junior Tour of Wales in August and having secured a place with Bryan Steel’s 4 man Academy team for the next year - as U23 – the 2019 season ended there with much to look forward to in 2020….if only!!

Aiming for podium finishes post covid

Will was confident that the four U23 riders would have a blistering season for Beeston Cycling Club, however the pandemic put an end to that almost before it had even begun. Will is aiming for more podium finishes next year while in his last year at College. If the opportunity arises, he would jump at the chance to get in some racing in Europe as well. Most importantly Will still loves riding his bike and racing to the full. 

Will and his senior academy riders remain very positive and their training programmes will enable them to seize successes when racing starts again.
