Lewis Holmes joins BCC Junior Race Team

Beeston Cycling Club Junior Race Team are delighted that Lewis Holmes is joining our squad. Lewis like his other team mates are moving up from Youth to Junior racing where they will be competing as teams at a much more demanding level in season 2021.

We have built a talented and diverse skilled team and our investment in their coaching is paying dividends especially through this challenging year of restricted racing. Our sponsors support have enabled our riders including new recruit Lewis to access the Bryan Steel Academy to help them develop their race craft and they are as well prepared for 2021 as they can be.

Lewis joins us from Matlock CC who have posted a lovely message.

Well done to Lewis who is moving on to join the Beeston CC Junior Team. Lewis has been a very important and active part of our Youth Team since he made a relatively late start to cycling and joined Matlock CC. It’s been great to watch Lewis develop as a rider who isn’t afraid to have a go in races and we wish him well with the next stage of his cycling development and we will follow his exploits with interest!

Lewis Holmes - CV

During 2019 Lewis competed in the National Hill Climb where he won the Age 15 category on Haytor hill, a 3.1 mile climb in a time of 16 minutes. Lewis enjoyed racing at under 16 level and regularly achieved top five finishes locally. His long term goal is to compete as a professional rider in Europe. As a step towards this he is eager to ride longer races and stage races as a junior.  He used the Mallory race league to practise his race skills and tactics and after gaining 50 national points applied for a dispensation license and raced his first Cat 3-4 race at Darley Moor.

Lewis is as a punchy climber who goes well on hilly courses and has a strong sprint especially on hilly finishes. Lewis is a good all-round rider and team member which will make him an integral part of the BCC Junior Team.  This year he would have liked to have developed as a rider by racing the Tour of Scotland for the East Midlands Region Youth Team which he was selected for along with Jack Pearson and Ed Hopkins (our other exciting new recruit) but unfortunately the Tour was cancelled due to Covid 19. Lewis is a tactical of racer and enjoys trying out different tactics and he is excited to represent Beeston CC and working closely with his new team mates. Lewis is eager to continue learning and will always give 100%.

Lewis has competed in a wide range of events including:

  • National Ten Mile time trial 2018.
  • National Circuit Championships at Scarborough.
  • Minehead GP National Youth series.
  • North West Tour2018 three day stage race – 25th from 75 in GC.
  • Regional Omniums – including a 2nd place in Elimination.
  • Derby Track League and SQT sessions.
  • Five seasons of NDCXL – targeting top five finishes
  • CX National Trophies.
  • Several local Hill Climb events with top 3 finishes at Riber (1st), Bank Road (2nd), Monsal Head (3rd), Longstone Edge (1st) and Ilkeston (3rd) events.
  • 2019 CTT National Hill Climb Champion U16 yr category
  • Matlock Top 10, 40 mile hilly sportive.
  • Mallory race league – consistent top seven finishes.
  • Circuit races at Darley Moor, Curborough, Stourport, Milton Keynes, Harvey Haddon and New College Leicester.
  • Lewis is a member of the Bryan Steel Youth Academy providing me with a personal training plan and feedback.
  • Lewis has been invited onto both road and track British Cycling RSR’s.
  • Lewis rides the DMRC 18 mile chain gang when possible and have a current PR of 43.32 minutes.

Role on 2021 and we hope that we can establish racing again so that our young talent can develop the career.

We would like to thank our members and sponsors that are supporting us on this journey to achieve our goals to develop our young talent to be the best they can be.
