Beeston Cycling Club Youth Race Team are delighted that Matt Kent is joining our squad as a 2ndyear under 14 rider.

Matt started riding at the age of 6 with VC Lincoln and his journey took off from there. In 2017 he raced in his first Lincoln Criterium U10 with a great 3rd (podium) finish.

Achieving successes and titles year on year

2018 was a great seasonwith Matt competing in many circuit and town centre races recording numerous podium finishes. Alongside Crit racing he started to develop his craft on track and progressed so well that he became U12 track omnium Regional Champion. 

Moving into 2019it was more circuit and track racing with a solid 3rd in the Dolan Series. Looking for more challenges Matt went to Belgium to compete in the IBYT-19 where during the 3 day event he took a stage win, wore the green jersey and finished a fantastic 3rd (podium) overall.  Back to UK Matt grabbed a 2nd in the BSCA National Champs and 2nd in the Mallory 19 season. 

In the Cyclocross (CX) season Matt had a TeamHUP (Kidsracing) sponsorship and rode their CX bike for the season, winning the Lincolnshire CX Trophy League Winner plus competing and completing in all the National events. 

2020 Covid hitafter 2 races so nothing other than family leisure riding during lockdown, then as restrictions started to ease he got back on with TT & track coaching sessions and one National CX event before the season came to a halt again. Matt also took opportunity to take part in all the British Cycling development sessions for both track and circuit. Throughout primary and secondary school Matt has been on the school cross country running team and through 19/20 he made it through to county, district and regional level. 

Looking to seize future successes

Now Matt joins Beeston Cycling Club his first team alongside a very good friend Luke Jones since they raced together from the U10’s.

With Covid19 restrictions gripping the country again Matt is actively training smart, and in routine contact with Bryan Steel and his new BCC team mates. Matt is delighted to have joined a strong youth squad and is excited to race in a team and feels that he has moved on to the next stage of his development. 

Matt and his new team mates remain very positive and their supportive training programme at home is serving them well to hone their fitness and enable them to seize successes when competitive racing finally starts again in 2021.
