Welcome to Beeston Cycling Club

Beeston Cycling Club Youth Race Team are delighted that Ruby-Summer Osborne is joining our squad as a 2nd year under 14 rider. Ruby joining us marks a major step in our plans to develop a female youth squad going forward. We are receiving lots of interest and will update you in the next few months.

Ruby-Summer started horse riding at 2 & half years old she was a member of Hardwick lodge Narborough riding school & the Pony Club and took part in various shows and won several rosettes, after riding until she was around 7 years old.  Ruby decided she would like to join & take part in triathlons, and she joined the Leicester Junior Triathlon Club, but at the age of seven she couldn’t race until she was 8 years old. It was around 3 years after joining the tri club she fell out of love with the running side of triathlon and was looking for other challenges.

From horse power to pedal power

Ruby’s love for cycling continued and she looked to join her local cycling club where she attended some taster sessions at the Leicester Forest Rockets at New College, Leicester. 

Ruby loved the taster sessions and joined the Club, the coaches mentioned they raced at Mallory and Ruby went along and entered her 1st under 12 girls race on her 24inch Isla bike and thoroughly enjoyed the aspect of club racing. Ruby started doing some constructive training in October to assess how she would adapt to the training discipline. Ruby’s cycling ability soon got better and stronger.

Ruby re started racing at Mallory Park for 2nd year under 12 girls and won her first race in wet and windy conditions. Being pleased with her race performance at this point it gave Ruby more drive to do even better within her training & racing and overall came 3rd place in the Mallory Park League.

In September 2019 Ruby entered her first road race and earned a fantastic 3rd place at the Warwick Town Center road race. 

In October 2019 Ruby then entered the local Ratae Road Club races which consisted of 2 hill climb races which she won, and it was great to see Ruby get a write up in the Leicester Mercury.

Ruby started the track clusters at Derby Velodrome and she started her accreditation, Ruby really loved the track sessions and she was primed for the racing season and unfortunately Covid-19 meant restrictions were put into place. 

Ruby weather permitted really enjoys her long base rides with the LFCC senior riders which is approximately 50-65 miles which she thoroughly enjoys especially the Café stops. On the 15th Aug 2020, Ruby showed great strength in completing a ride just over 103 miles with 4,500 feet of climbing around the roads of Leicestershire which again she thoroughly enjoyed. 

Looking to spring forward in 2021
Due to races being cancelled with Covid-19 restrictions being in place, Ruby has continued working hard with her training and is really looking forward to hopefully being back racing this year with her new Team mates at Beeston CC and joining the Bryan Steel Youth Academy. Ruby is delighted to have joined a strong youth squad and is excited to race in a team and feels that she has moved on to the next stage of her development. 

Ruby and her new team mates remain very positive and their supportive training programme at home is serving them well to hone their fitness and enable them to seize successes when competitive racing finally starts again in 2021.
